Hora do Lanche

While in many countries you will see people having coffee on the go on paper cups, that is a rare sight in Portugal.

Pausing to drink your coffee is a ritual taken quite seriously (and quite often) by Portuguese.

We drink coffee to start the day and, at mid afternoon, we have what we call “lanche”, our afternoon snack.

I am glad our pastry shops are full of sweet treats so that coffee breaks never have a bitter taste!
