Yosemite national park in California, USA will surprise you with it’s unique granite rock structures. The park is dominated by massive mountains of granite and the valley is flush with green meadows, beautiful lakes, and dense coniferous vegetation. Driving around you’ll see ancient Sequoia trees, crazy high waterfalls, and tons of wildlife. We finally spotted a bear!
The park, being close to San Francisco and Los Angeles does tend to get crowded during the holiday season. We were lucky to be there right before the start of high season. There were tons of people around but not enough to make things feel crowded. On another plus, since the snow melts around this time of year, the waterfalls were in full force. Awesome!
Oh, and btw, you can get tickets to Crystal Cave (which is about at the 50-60 minute mark from Three Rivers ) at the visitor center as you enter the park (or at least you could last year; federal budget cutbacks to parks have been severe – I’m going in the next few weeks, will check it out). So for many, that’s a place to see something really spectacular and break up the drive up the hill.
