Arriving in the Atacama Desert means coming to a place surrounded by endlessly arid landscapes, rough mountains, starching sun during the day and surprisingly low temperatures during the night. To enjoy the desert experience to the fullest you are going to have to rough it up during the day and that is why it is so important to rest and re-energize in a comfortable place during the night.
Parina Atacama was home for us during the 5 days we spent exploring the area around San Pedro de Atacama, one of the most visited touristic attractions in Chile.
Parina Atacama is an apart-hotel offering apartments for single, double or family occupancy. All apartments are divided into bedroom plus bathroom and a kitchen/dining area. I find it extremely convenient to have an available kitchen while traveling – I like cooking but even for those who don’t, it’s undoubtedly useful to have facilities on hand to prepare some coffee, tea or light snacks. The kitchens at Parina Atacama are incredibly well equipped, it is very rare to encounter an apart-hotel kitchen with so many pots and pans, dishware, alongside a gas stove, fridge and electric water boiler.

Breakfast is served in your apartment every morning at the time you request the previous day. It is very common in San Pedro de Atacama for visitors to enroll in very early activities (such as the popular tour to the Geysers del Tatio that starts at 4AM) – on those days you won’t be served breakfast that early (tour companies will provide you with something to eat anyway) but will be welcomed back to your room with some fruits at around noon when you return.

The family apartments are particularly nice: the sleeping area is on the upper floor, being the kitchen and dining/living room downstairs. All rooms receive a lot of natural light although they remain at fresh pleasant temperatures, and are warm at night. If indoors leisure is what you are looking for after a day of adventure outdoors, you can enjoy the flat screen with cable TV or listen to some music on your very own stereo with CD player.

We had a great stay at Parina Atacama and enjoyed the fact that is not in the very center of town. In about 10 minutes walking we would be in the very center and, at the same time, got to enjoy a more relaxed location with all services around us: grocery stores, restaurants (more affordable than those in the main streets) and a bakery with yummy deserts next door!

Parina Atacama is a great option for travelers who like to be comfortable while having a certain sense of independence. You have everything you need in your apartment, and that certainly makes you feel like you have your own space!
