Chicago is a great city to hang out. A lot of live music, restaurants, art: this is metropolitan life at its best! The same exact feeling applies to Chicago Getaway Hostel, where we stayed at during the time we spent in Chicago.
The moment you enter the spacious lobby of the hostel you can feel the young and friendly vibes all around you. The staff at reception checks you in with that informal warm feeling as if they were old time friends.

You can opt for private rooms or dorm beds, with ensuite or shared bathroom: there are options for different kinds of travelers and budgets. And be rest assured that all rooms are tidy, comfy and have a modern look to them. Same goes for the bathrooms: colorful, spotlessly clean, maintained and functional! We loved the fact that every room tag had the number written in Braille.

If you ever wanted to know what it feels like to be in a professional kitchen of a restaurant, perhaps you can grasp some of that here at the hostel itself. The kitchen is massive and extremely well equipped, putting to shame in this department most of the hostels we’ve been to around the world! There is fridge and freezer space for everyone and even the shelves are divided in a very well organized way so that everyone keeps their food well stored and even in a picturesque way:

Where this hostel really stands out is in the social side of things! Hanging out with travelers from all around the USA and the rest of the world is in the order of the day at Chicago Getaway Hostel. During the day and, particularly in the evenings, you’ll always find people to talk to and plan something together. The dining hall includes games for people to play, there is a TV room with video-games too, a lounge sunny area by the lobby and even guitars and a piano for those who’d dare to serenade their hostel mates!

There’s also WIFI and computers available in the lobby and you can print your documents for free!
We took advantage of the free printing to print out some flight and concert tickets!
No doubt that the hostel is extremely well equipped: you can borrow umbrellas and hair dryers from reception, there’s food, drinks and toiletries vending machines in the kitchen, coffee machine available 24/7, an ATM in the lobby and even souvenirs being sold at the reception!
If you’re in an outdoorsy mood, you can always rent a bike for half or full day and go explore the city or simply ride by the lake which is 5 minutes away from the hostel. The outdoors area of the hostel also includes BBQ facilities and there are organized events every day, that range from BBQs itself to outings at night, drinking times, cultural activities, movie screenings and games.
