WILLIAMSBURG Flea Market: where hipsters rejoice!

When we traveled around New York City, we couldn’t miss out on Brooklyn. After all, movies and TV shows have made the other side of the bridge in NYC so popular, that we were curious to see by ourselves.

To say that Brooklyn is happening is an understatement. Whatever scene you’re into, you’ll find your way around here. Particularly if you’re a hipster! If you are one, it’s in the neighborhood of Williamsburg that you will feel at home.

Once a traditional working class area, Williamsburg is now a hotspot where bars, restaurants, art galleries and anything “alternative” or “indie” concentrate. Talking with our hosts in Queens, we were mentioning that we walked around Brooklyn. “Did you get to go around Williamsburg? It’s full of colorful hipsters..“, they asked. “We think so.. we don’t know if the area we walk around was Williamsburg exactly.“, we answered. “Ohhh.. then you didn’t go there! Once you’re in Williamsburg, you know! You’ll see the people all around you and you will be reassured that you are indeed there!“. True!

Next day we took the subway to Bedford Ave and the moment we came out of the station, we knew: this was indeed Williamsburg!

Crowds at Williamsburg's Sunday Flea Market

It was a Sunday, which meant we got to enjoy the popular Williamsburg Flea Market. Not only it was an experience from a people’s watching perspective, it was also very interesting to understand how you can mark up old stuff, call it vintage or unique and sell it as a one of a kind.

This stall was actually invisible but somehow it does show in photos!

The latest trends… straight out of the 80s!

Hey Macklemore, do you wanna go thrift shopping?

Wanna be a hipster? Let your t-shirt speak for yourself.

I kept on thinking about the time my Mom had to empty my Grandma’s house and get rid of her stuff. Nobody would give decent euros for her old furniture and decorative items, but in Williamsburg we would have cashed out big time!…

I wonder what the price of those boxes containing the jars would be…

Not sure if this stall was selling props for horror movies or what the scene really was in there…

Who would have thought black boards could be A THING?!

If the above are items hipsters like to buy, the kind of stuff they apparently like to eat involve pricey hot dogs, fusion cuisine (Japanese with Mexican, for instance), anything with cheese (but calling it queso), pseudo-healthy Asian influenced beverages and funky donuts.

Let those caramelized onions drip as you watch the Hipster World go by…

This guy's sweater makes me happy! :)

Eating Sunday away at Landhaus

We didn’t get to try the donuts, because the line was over the top. I wonder what was so special about them… anyone?!

Hipsters going crazy over donuts at DOUGH. If Homer Simpson was a hipster, this is where you'd probably find him.

We actually had a lot of fun walking around Williamsburg’s Sunday Flea Market. The vibes are very entertaining, there are good food options around, some cute stuff for purchase too, and it’s just one subway stop away from Manhattan. Can’t miss the views!
