Travelers Rest Lodge: gateway to Glacier National Park

Travelers Rest Lodge, in East Glacier, is a great place to stay at while visiting Glacier National Park in Montana.

This is a fairly off the beaten path part of the USA, and only those who truly wish to explore the wonders of nature contained inside this park, which belongs to both the US and Canada, will make their way here. For us, it was totally worth the drive and, staying at Travelers Rest Lodge, made the experience even more charming.

Accommodation consists in individual wooden cabins, where a warm park style atmosphere and aesthetics meet the comforts of modern living.

Cabins nestled in the aspens

We stayed in a cute wooden cabin that included an open space bedroom with lounge, kitchenette and bathroom with tub. The living area had a couple of couches, books and, the best part, a fireplace that made our evenings warm and homey. There are also rooms built atop the barn, for those who wouldn’t like to miss out on a privileged panoramic view towards the snowy mountains!

Breakfast is not served at the lodge, but we found the kitchenette to be very convenient to prepare this and other meals in the evening. In any case, there are restaurants, cafes and shops right in town – everything is very concentrated so you’ll find what you need easily! You can even walk to town in less than 10 minutes.

The kitchenette includes a microwave, toaster, coffee maker, fridge, plates, cutlery and other utensils. We were also welcomed with some complimentary snacks which you can take out and have during an outdoorsy day around the park!

The cabins are really cute and warm, with nature related decorations, posters about the park and plenty of reading material about the area and beyond.

In the evenings, the entire place feels magical, as the sun goes down and there are not many lights around to distract you from the colors and shadows of dusk.

As the sun goes to sleep…

A cabin in the woods at night

There is no WIFI in the cabins but you can get connected in the supermarket in town, which you’ll reach in a few minutes. This is a “get away from it all” kind of place, where no TV or connection to the outside world shall distract you from immersing yourself in nature and enjoying the surroundings. So if this is what you’re looking for and the temperature allows, I recommend enjoying some time outside by the porche, where you might even be visited by the friendly resident cat, just like we did!
