However, for most countries a marriage is recognized internationally. Also, since our marriage certificate has been apostilled by the Secretary of State, Nevada - we have legalized it for international usage. India is a signatory to the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostille_convention" rel="nofollow">apostille convention</a> so yes, in theory, the marriage certificate *should* be valid in India. The Portuguese consulate in San Francisco did recognize our marriage certificate today and even put a small stamp on it saying that Portugal recognizes it. Small stamp cost $26.44 but that's another story ;) To be honest, I’m not 100% sure. However, for most countries a marriage is recognized internationally.
