YES! You must prepare your own food or you will eat mostly like crap. This article points out so many things that drive me nuts there. Microwaves Ahhh! What a scam. If I tell people that then I'm strange. :-)
The saddest thing is when you see a plump kid eating a double cheese, thick crust pizza washed down with a large cup of coca-cola. The medical industry is booming.

What a gem of an article! I've lived in the States for 2 and a half years and I remember people thinking I was a weirdo for using the oven, the stove and kitchen utensils to cook. The fact that I always cook from scratch was another reason for people to think I was a bit strange. "Why should you cook from scratch when you can simply get something from the freezer straight to the microwave? It saves you so much time and stress" they used to say.

I was fortunate enough to live with a vegan family who ate organic food only, so I never had to deal with the real American problem regarding the food industry. Later on I lived in a community where all ingredients were local and organic as well. I never got weight while living there, unlike most visitors and residents.

You and I were both born in a country that prioritizes slow food and I think I'm very fortunate for having that cultural trade very rooted within myself.

Thanks for your comment, Ankit!
Well.. we must have put on 5KGs at least during our 50 days in the US.. but we did have some yummy stuff over there, specially the burgers. But oh boy.. the food tends to be SO HEAVY!!..
Still trying to get rid of those fries that have made my body their home! :P

Makes me want to go to the states again just to eat! I loved my 3 years there and the main reason for sustaining a lonely life was food.. Excellent post - specially for a foodie like me :)
