Best Airbnb Apartment in Cluj Napoca

Our Airbnb Experience in Cluj-Napoca

Cluj is one of the most visited cities in Transylvania. Even though an increasing number of tourists make their way to this region of Romania every year, I still feel like the area is somehow underrated. Apart from the obvious tourist attractions of Transylvania (yes so-called Dracula’s Castle, we’re thinking about you!), the region is also ideal for those planning to experience life in a different place for a while.

As digital nomads, we move from city to city almost every month. And it so happens that during one of those months we made our way to Cluj, and were lucky enough to find a great Airbnb rental that instantly made us feel at home in the city. After so many disappointments with Airbnb, it felt so good to finally come across such a nearly perfect place!

Remus’ apartment covers the obvious needs of most travelers, whether on a short or long trip. It is fully equipped and, unlike many Airbnbs we’ve come across during the years, it had good looking modern equipment. We’re talking about a comfortable bed, a couch that welcomes you to chill out and a kitchen with high-quality electrodomestics and utensils.

There is no TV in the apartment, but we used the sound system often, to blast songs like Dragostea Din Tei and practice our Romanian. Yes, it was great fun living in this apartment!

The bedroom is spacious and has plenty of storage space. There is a door that connects to a balcony, shared with the living room and dining area. On sunny days, this is a great spot to sit down and get some fresh air. During winter, though, I’d rather stay indoors and take advantage of the efficient central heating.

The apartment is ready to be lived-in, much more so than most short-term rentals. Apart from including obvious things like towels, bed linens and even olive oil and some spices in the kitchen, Remus’ place covers all those little details that are often forgotten, but can turn out to be annoying when you move to a new place and have to “start from scratch”. I am talking about detergent for the dishes, soap to do laundry in the apartment’s washing machine, cleaning products, bathroom amenities, plenty of toilet paper for the entire stay, tissues… even chocolates and wine!

From a remote professionals perspective, Remus’ apartment is one of the greatest options we browsed on Airbnb within Cluj. Not only is the space big, modern and comfortable, there are a few details that make it ideal for digital nomads. There is no working area as such, but the chairs around the dining table are good to sit around for a few hours. There is also a wooden counter dividing the living room and dining area, with two high chairs. This was my favorite spot to sit at and work while at home. There are several plug points within easy reach, and a lamp with a USB port. WIFI in the apartment is also good, both for working and streaming: 25 Mbps download and 35 Mbps upload.

The location of this Airbnb apartment in Cluj is also a plus! Even though it is not in the very center of the city, it is only about 10 minutes tram ride from it, and the tram stop is about a 3 minute walk from the house. The ride costs around USD0.50, so that will certainly not add greatly to your travel expenses. This is a residential area, and there are plenty of conveniences all around: a few supermarkets, a petrol pump with a late-night convenience store, and a couple of restaurants and cafes too. One of the sides of the building faces an extensive park that houses a free basketball court and a skate park, as well as a paid tennis club. There are bicycles to rent for cheap nearby too, and tracks for those who would like to go jogging or simply walk by the water. Weather permitting, the area is always busy with local folks exercising and strolling by. If you’d like to experience what local life is all about around Cluj, this is a great spot to do so!

Cluj is not a highly touristic city, and that is exactly what makes it so great! This apartment offers above the average accommodation than what you’ll find around Cluj, but it’s still good value for most international travelers.

  • This sounds like simply the best AirBnB I’ve heard of! Great find!!

    Hi!
I just found your website. It’s very interesting. This apartment looks very nice. However, is that a skate board park that’s near it? Wouldn’t that be rather loud at times?

I’ve signed up for your e-mails. I love reading about how people live around the world and especially what they eat. (Neither is that much different than how we live and eat in the USA.) I’ve discovered that many people in different countries make a version of my mom’s homemade baking powder biscuits! Mom would be surprised if she were still with us!

    Keep up the good work!

      Hey Penny,

The apartment is Cluj wasn’t noisy at all.. there’s a bit of a garden between the building and the skate park, so you can really live in a quiet environment. Furthermore, Cluj is not that busy for a city. It’s really, really nice and peaceful!

Thanks for signing up for our newsletter.
Looking forward to sharing more travel stories with you! :)

Hello. My daughter and I are looking for a place to stay from Sunday, August 6 for at least one night or two. Is your place available? If so, what would the cost be?
    Thank you in advance.
    Kind Regards,

    Diana Monk
