CamelBackpackers in Phoenix: not your typical hostel!

Before you cross the door at CamelBackpackers, forget about any pre-conceived idea of “hostel” that you might have. Leaving that concept outside, you’ll come into CamelBackpackers Hostel, to realize this place is way cooler than most hostels out there!

What makes CamelBackpackers special? The fact that, more than a business, it’s a welcoming house (in one of Phoenix’s residential neighborhoods), where travelers come to rest, hang out and, in general, spend some quality time at, in a very homey atmosphere.

There are only 2 dorms (accommodating 6 to 8 people each) and a private room with 2 beds (for up to 4 people) – this means it’ll never get incredibly busy around here, making it feel like you’re sharing a house with other travelers, more than a typical hostel where you’d come and go.

We were welcomed by the friendly Sue, who was an excellent host and showed us around. She made sure we knew our way around the neighborhood, the highlights of things to see and do (and drink!) in Phoenix and possible day trips to take around the area.

We stayed in the private room with a shared bathroom – although the restroom is shared, it’s kept impeccably clean all day long. And the same goes for the rest of the hostel: not only it’s decorated in a functional and attractive way, it’s also really well maintained.

The kitchen stands out, and it is truly well equipped making sure you can prepare virtually anything during your time at CamelBackpackers – spices and oils are even made available for free, making cooking much easier. There’s also free coffee and tea available 24/7.

Breakfast is included in the rate, consisting in a simple yet delicious array of goodies kept in the kitchen, for you to prepare at your convenience everyday until 10AM: bread (white and brown), nutella, peanut butter, different types of cereal, milk, juices, coffee, tea and, the best part, a variety of fruits.

The social side of things is never forgotten at CamelBackpackers: every evening you’ll find travels hanging out, painting, playing games, singing along if someone knows how to play the guitar, watching movies…
