The choices for Colombia and Afghanistan are absolute classics. I prefer memoir type literature to fiction, and would highly recommend "Beyond the Sky and the Earth: A Journey into Bhutan" by Jamie Zeppa. It is a superb depiction of Bhutan. Or any of Peter Hessler's books on China. And before going to Delhi I'd recommend William Dalrymple's "the city of Djinns". For Mumbai I'd also recommend Rohinton Mistry's "A fine balance" and "Maximum city" by Suketu Mehta. Oh, and "Love and longing in Bombay" by Vikram Chandra.
