The Licancabur Volcano

Licancabur – As seen from San Pedro de Atacama

This is the Licancabur volcano, visible from all over the town of San Pedro de Atacama. The volcano’s last eruption date is unknown however there are some interesting stories behind the history of this mountain. Part of the volcano lies in Bolivia and the summit lies in Chile. There is a crater lake at the top of the volcano and it is one of the highest lakes in the world!

Licancabur means Mountain of the People. I wonder why they call it that..

I don’t think “regular humans” can make it there… But there are plenty of beautiful things one can enjoy here in the region.

          Hi Alissa,
Sorry, but we don’t really know much about Licancabur.
It’d probably be better if you contacted any local organizations in San Pedro de Atacama or around.
          Best of luck!

Hi! I am doing a school project and I was wondering if you knew how many eruptions Licancabur has had in its life time. I was also wondering if you could tell me any other interesting facts that would help improve my paper and help me learn just how intersecting this volcano is. THANKS!!!
