Hotel Boutique Don Pepe: a splendid stay in Santa Marta, Colombia

Some hotels manage to transport you into another world from the moment you cross their doors. Hotel Boutique Don Pepe, in the coastal city of Santa Marta, Colombia, is definitely one of them.

We arrived late at night, and although the hotel staff didn’t know what time to expect us, it felt like they were ready to receive us at any moment. After a smooth check-in, we were welcomed to our room, which was already cooled down with AC (one learns how to appreciate this dearly when traveling by the Caribbean) and where soft background music was playing. Hello relax!

Soon after, we were served refreshing iced lemonade and local coconut sweets… we knew we were in the best place we could have been to enjoy a blissful stay in Santa Marta!

Our room in was truly welcoming and comfortable. There are only 12 rooms in this small hotel, which means that there is a great level of attention and detail put into them, and into service in general. The decor is based on a fusion of modern amenities and vintage elements from the original architecture of this historical building. This is a place to rest, but to do so in style.

All rooms include LCD TVs, temperature control, WIFI, iPod speakers, well stocked mini-bar and luxurious beauty amenities by L’occitane.

Hotel Boutique Don Pepe
is located in the heart of the historic district of Santa Marta. It is only a couple of minutes walk from the waterfront, and you can actually enjoy great views from the different terraces on the rooftop: there are views out to sea and the famous rock that dominates the sea in front of Santa Marta or, in the opposite direction, you may appreciate the city’s skyline and standing-out landmarks such as the cathedral.

It is also on the rooftop that is located an outdoor jacuzzi, where you may unwind after days out exploring the area. If relaxation is what you’re after, we’d suggest you book yourself for a treatment at the spa of Hotel Boutique Don Pepe, and allow the team to pamper you away.

The architecture, the bright colors accentuated by the constant sun that shines over Santa Marta and the blue of the swimming pool make up such a refreshing atmosphere at Don Pepe. This hotel is like being in a oasis, in nature, just with all the comforts of modern days involved.

The gastronomic experience was one of the highlights of our stay at Don Pepe. Every morning we would mix and match items from the breakfast menu to indulge in international and typical local preparations, always accompanied with extremely fresh fruits and, of course, signature Colombian coffee.

A stay of 4 nights was not enough time to get to try the different breakfast options. But, luckily, days out busy exploring the surroundings of Santa Marta did result in evenings in, when we ordered room service. We highly recommend you dine in the hotel at least once. Whether it is in your room or in the lovely restaurant setting outdoors, a gratifying foodie experience awaits you. Resident Chef Dario Herrera has developed an unconventional menu that blends traditional ingredients from the Caribbean coast of Colombia with international flavors and influences. The result are dishes with different layers of flavors, that take your palate onto a voyage, in this case without even leaving the comfort of your room.

Hotel Boutique Don Pepe
is beautiful during the day, but when the night comes down, it has a very special charm to it too. Soft lighting and reflections from the swimming pool give the place an atmosphere that invites you to lounge around, whether it is by the main floor or the rooftop where there is also bar.

We did a lot of outdoor activities during our days in Santa Marta, including trips to Minca and Tayrona National Park. Hotel Boutique Don Pepe was a great place to come back to at the end of a tiring day under the harsh sun that lights up the coast of Colombia. Offering the best combination of boutique hotel with big hotel facilities, they offer a cozy and stylish environment. This, paired with the ever present smile of all the team members, made our stay as pleasant as it could have been!

Nice place guys! Is this in Santa Marta or in El Rodadero? Just wondering because many just consider the two one of the same.

Ps I guess we’ll be getting a post on Parque Tayrona?

      Hi Frank!

This hotel is in the very city center of Santa Marta. El Rodadero would be towards the outskirts of the city, it’s technically a separate town as far as I understand.

Yes, you can expect a post on our day spent at Tayrona NP, coming up very soon! By the way, the info I read on your blog (which I found with the mighty Travel Blog Search) was decisive to make it a day trip and not a longer stay..

      Cheers!

The shower is very cool indeed.
I like to call it “the naughty shower”.. very good for the romantic mood, but not if you share room with someone you’re not involved with! ;)

  • Beautiful hotel! I love it when the accommodation becomes as much of a destination as the location itself, and this looks like one such place!

We were a little sad that we had planned so much to do and explore outdoors.. we could have just stayed in the hotel and have a great time right there too!

Wow guys! I see you treated yourself so nicely! Your rooms looks like a princes room and this yummy breakfast – omomom! I wish I could stay here at least one night… :-)
